RAFW 2011 Beauty Trends

Whether bright and bold or completely nude, beauty this year at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week was all about the lips.

Bold colours are still a strong trend, popping up in many collections. Orange was definitely a favourite at RAFW, dominating the catwalks in both clothing and beauty. At Karla Spetic and Gary Bigeni the lips were a vibrant bright orange, while Yeojin Bae had a softer version of the same shade. LancĂ´me artistic director Michael Brown created a statement coral lip for the Camilla and Marc show, mixing an orange-based red and a coral for a stunning end result. Dhini showcased a unique take on the bright lip with a look created by Napoleon Perdis. Teaming an orange top lip with fuchsia on the bottom, it was a bold take on the trend. Stolen Girlfriend's Club chose two very different beauty looks for their show, both created by MAC's Terry Barber and both featuring a statement lip. The first look was inspired by being in love and featured an intense fushia pout with nude eyes. Look two however was inspired by angst and heartbreak and showcased a dark purple lip for a very punk-rocker result.

For those a little afriad of all the bright, bold colours for everyday wear, never fear; there were some more subtle beauty trends showcased at RAFW too. Nude lips were seen on many a catwalk including the Gail Soronda, Rachel Gilbert and Flannel shows, and this trend can easily be translated into an everyday look. Napoleon Perdis created the translucent, glowing skin seen in the Rachel Gilbert show by combining softly bronzed cheeks and totally nude lips. This chic, fresh-faced look was a trend seen on the runways for Magdalena Velevska and Therese Rawsthorne as well and can be achieved by teaming glowing skin with rosy cheeks and big lashes.

While lips may have stolen the show at RAFW, statement colours and bold looks aren't set aside for the pout alone. When it comes to eyes, orange popped up once again, going from one extreme to another. Shakuhachi showcased a fabulously bright orange worn over the whole lid, while a softer beigey-orange eye was seen in the Zimmermann show. Terry Barber for MAC created a bold, punk-esque smokey eye for Kate Sylvester's RAFW show. The look was inspired by moths, a key inspiration for Sylvester's collection 'Into the Light'. Then for a beautiful take on the brights trend, Roopa Pemmaraju showcased a combination of turquoise and lilac for a vibrant look.
